21st Annual Educational Conference and Trade Show

Denver, CO – The Meetings Industry Council (MIC) of Colorado hosted 450 registered attendees for the 21st Annual MIC Educational Conference & Trade Show on June 2, 2021. At the Colorado Convention Center (CCC) in Denver, Colorado.

The MIC Opening Keynote was presented by former Bronco’s Captain, Karl Mecklenburg, CSP. Karl is the only NFL legend to have earned the Certified Speaking Professional designation from the National Speakers Association. He kicked off the conference with a relatable and invigorating talk about making everyday game day.

For the first time, the MIC Conference featured a Trade Show with optional 1-on-1 appointments for MIC Sponsors, Exhibitors and Planners. These meetings were pre-arranged and allowed our industry members to connect in a new way at the event. The concurrent sessions had a litany of all-star speakers including a panel moderated by Michael Dominguez, President & CEO of ALHI interviewing Cathy Breden, EVP/COO of IAEE, Paul Van Deventer, President & CEO of MPI, and Sherrif Karamat, President & CEO of PCMA on Trends & Predictions for our New Normal. This session live streamed in Sherrif Karamat, a first for MIC Trade Show and Conference!

The 2021 MIC 2020 Leadership Award was presented to Keith and Freddie (Keddy) Templeton, Management Company for MIC for the last 15 years and owners of Rocky Mountain Event Consultants for 25 years. Freddie and Keith are stepping down from managing MIC as of July 1, 2021 but will continue to run Rocky Mountain Event Consultants and their other clients for years to come. Two MIC Chair Awards were also presented to Lora Knowlton, MIC Chair Elect, and Tiffany Carson, MIC Treasurer. The 2020 Awards also included the recognition of 2020-2021 Chair Kimberly, Forte, awarded by the MIC Council and presented by Chair Elect, Lora Knowlton.

The event wrapped with a closing general session hosted by John Register, Paralympic Games Silver Medalist, Gulf War Veteran and TEDx Motivational Speaker. John interviewed Erika L. Alexander, Chief Global Officer, Global Operations, for Marriott International, a Women’s Forum Leadership Foundation Fellow, one of the Top 100 Influential Women in Atlanta (Atlanta Business League), Corporate Woman of Achievement (YWCA), past recipient of Marriott’s Diversity and Inclusion Trailblazer Award, and a 31-year employee of Marriott. This interview focused on the strength our industry and its members can have in the face of adversity, how teamwork pulled Marriott through the pandemic, and how Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion ahs a huge role to play in the future of the Meetings Industry.

Meetings Industry Council (MIC) of Colorado Mission & Purpose:
The MIC of Colorado is a coalition of 13 professional organizations related to the meetings and events industry.
